Guitar Chords App That Hears Your Guitar
ChordRunner is a guitar chords app that listens to your real guitar: a chord appears, you strum it, and the app hears through the microphone whether it was right. It runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install, from beginner chords to 13ths.
No account, no download. The demo has limited content. Advanced features are in ChordRunner Premium.
- MIDI keyboard
- Digital or acoustic piano
- Guitar
- Computer, phone or tablet
What a good guitar chords app should do
| What matters | In ChordRunner |
|---|---|
| Hears your guitar | Microphone chord recognition on acoustic or electric guitar |
| Makes you play, not watch | Every chord is answered on the strings, with instant feedback |
| Grows with you | Beginner, intermediate, advanced and pro chord sets, plus an adaptive mode |
| Every key | All 12 roots, from E and Am to F#m7b5 |
| Works anywhere | Browser on phone, tablet or computer; no download, no account for the demo |
The app shows chord symbols, the way songbooks write them, not fretboard diagrams.
How the guitar chord app works
1. Open it in the browser
Allow the microphone once. Nothing to install.
2. A chord appears
G, C, D7... it rides towards your runner.
3. Strum it
The app recognises the chord. Right in time, your runner jumps.
An app to learn guitar chords, level by level
- Beginner: major and minor chords such as G, C, D, Em and Am, then augmented and diminished.
- Intermediate: sus2 and sus4.
- Advanced: 6th, 7th and 9th chords.
- Pro: 11th, 13th and altered chords.
The adaptive mode starts with triads and adds the next chord family only when your hit rate goes up, so the app always plays at your level. Practise chord changes in random order, the way songs use them.
Guitar, piano or MIDI keyboard
The same app works on keys: a USB MIDI keyboard is detected automatically, an acoustic piano works through the microphone.
- Guitar chord game: practise chord changes.
- Chord quiz: test yourself by playing.
- More ways to play: your own chord set, chords in a key, progressions on loop, live multiplayer (advanced features in ChordRunner Premium).
Common questions
Is there an app that listens to my guitar chords?
Yes. ChordRunner listens through the microphone of your phone, tablet or computer and recognises the chord you strum on an acoustic or electric guitar, then tells you at once if it was right.
Do I need to download the guitar chords app?
No. It runs in the browser on any device. Open the page, allow the microphone and play.
Does the app show chord diagrams?
No. It shows chord symbols such as G, Em or D7, the way songbooks write them, and checks that you play them. Look up a new shape once, then let the app drill it.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. It starts with major and minor chords and adds sus, 7th, 9th and 13th chords as your hit rate goes up, always in all 12 keys.
Your instrument is the controller.
ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
