Learn Piano Online, on Your Own Schedule
You can learn piano online without booking a single lesson: open the browser, connect your keyboard or let the microphone hear your piano, and practise when it suits you. The secret is not the video you watch but the feedback you get while you play.
No account, no download. The demo has limited content. Advanced features are in ChordRunner Premium.
- MIDI keyboard
- Digital or acoustic piano
- Guitar
- Computer, phone or tablet
What online practice does better
- It is there at 7 in the morning or at midnight.
- Every note is checked as you play, not a week later.
- It never runs out of patience: the same chord a hundred times if needed.
- Your scores show what improved and what did not.
What it cannot do
No screen sees how you sit or how your wrist moves. Film yourself once a week, or take a lesson with a teacher now and then, to catch posture habits early.
Learn Piano Online, on Your Own Schedule
ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps.
Play the demoSet up in two minutes
Open ChordRunner in Chrome or Edge on a computer, tablet or phone. A USB MIDI keyboard is detected by itself; with an acoustic or digital piano, allow the microphone and play in a quiet room. Then pick the first level.
A 7-day online routine
- Monday and Thursday: single notes in any octave, 5 minutes.
- Tuesday and Friday: chord levels, 10 minutes.
- Wednesday: sight reading on a real staff.
- Saturday: ear training, hear it then play it.
- Sunday: one speed run to measure the week.
The levels in ChordRunner
- Beginner: major, minor, augmented and diminished chords.
- Intermediate: adds sus2 and sus4.
- Advanced: adds 6th, 7th and 9th chords.
- Pro: adds 11th, 13th and altered chords; an adaptive mode adds the next family when you are ready.
Common questions
Can you really learn piano online?
Yes, for notes, chords, reading and ear training, if the online tool hears your real instrument. Check your posture now and then with a mirror, a video or a teacher.
What do I need to learn piano online?
A keyboard or piano, a browser such as Chrome or Edge, and either a USB cable for MIDI or a microphone.
How long per day?
Ten to fifteen minutes is enough when every minute has feedback.
Which instruments work?
A USB MIDI keyboard, detected automatically, or a piano or guitar through the microphone. Everything runs in Chrome or Edge on a computer, tablet or phone.
How is this different from apps where you tap the screen?
Tapping trains your eyes and fingers on glass. Here you press real keys or fret real strings, and the game hears the actual notes, so what you practise is exactly what you will play on your instrument.
Is everything in the demo?
The demo has limited content. Advanced features are in ChordRunner Premium.
Your instrument is the controller.
