What Baug does in music

  • Baug is the III+ chord in the harmonic minor scale of G# minor.
  • Its thirds are equal, so Baug, Ebaug and Gaug use the same three keys: the root is whichever note you treat as home.
  • A common move is B → Baug → E: the raised fifth F## pushes up to G#.

Common questions

What notes are in the B augmented chord?

Baug has three notes: B, D#, F##. Root, major 3rd and augmented 5th (formula 1 3 #5).

What is the difference between Baug and B?

One note. B has F# on top; Baug moves it to F##. The new fifth is what gives Baug its floating, unresolved sound.

Where does Baug go?

Baug is the III+ chord in the harmonic minor scale of G# minor. Its thirds are equal, so Baug, Ebaug and Gaug use the same three keys: the root is whichever note you treat as home.

Can I practise Baug with a MIDI keyboard or microphone?

Yes. ChordRunner detects a USB MIDI keyboard automatically and also hears an acoustic piano through the microphone. Baug counts in any position, as long as B, D#, F## sound together.

Your instrument is the controller.

ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
