Chord App for Piano and Guitar

ChordRunner is a chord app for piano and guitar that listens to your real instrument. A chord appears, you play it, and the app tells you instantly if it was right. It runs in the browser on phone, tablet or computer, covers 24 chord types in all 12 keys and grows with you from beginner to pro.

No account, no download. The demo has limited content. Advanced features are in ChordRunner Premium.

How to choose a chord app

  • Does it hear you play? Reading chord charts is not the same as finding chords on demand.
  • Does it cover every key? C and G are easy; the app should train Eb and F# just as much.
  • Does it adapt? Too easy is boring, too hard is frustrating. Levels and an adaptive mode fix both.
  • Is it quick? Ten-minute sessions you actually do every day beat long ones you skip.

Chord app or chord chart?

A chord chart or chord dictionary tells you which notes make a chord. A chord app like ChordRunner makes you play it: it hears your MIDI keyboard, piano or guitar and gives instant feedback. Use the chart to look a chord up once, and the app to make it automatic. Our piano chord chart lists 288 chords if you need one.

Chord app for beginners

Beginners start with major and minor chords in a few keys; the app adds augmented and diminished chords, then sus, 7th and 9th chords only when the first ones are easy. Nothing is unlocked too early. Advanced players jump straight to the pro chord set: 11th, 13th and altered chords in all 12 keys, the vocabulary of jazz, with any voicing accepted so you can practise the shapes you really use.

Want a routine? Start with the 10-minute chord practice, or test yourself with the chord quiz.

Your instrument is the controller.

ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
