Chord Quiz: Answer by Playing

A chord quiz tests whether you really know your chords. Most quizzes ask you to tap a name. ChordRunner's chord quiz asks you to play it: a chord symbol appears and you answer on your piano, MIDI keyboard or guitar, with instant feedback and a score that rises as you get faster.

Common questions

How does a chord quiz you play work?

A chord symbol appears and you answer by playing it on a piano, MIDI keyboard or guitar instead of tapping a name. The game hears the notes and tells you at once whether the chord was right.

Is there a chord quiz for beginners?

Yes. Start with major and minor chords, then augmented and diminished. Sus, 7th, 9th and 13th chords come in later levels, always in all 12 keys.

Can I do a guitar chord quiz?

Yes. Strum the chord near the microphone and it is recognised. The same quiz works on piano.

Is there a chord quiz by ear?

Recognising chords by sound is ear training: hear a chord and name its quality. ChordRunner has an ear training mode for that next to the played chord quiz.

Your instrument is the controller.

ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
