The notes inside Faug, string by string
| 6th string (low E) | fret 1: F |
|---|---|
| 4th string (D) | fret 3: F |
| 3rd string (G) | fret 2: A |
| 2nd string (B) | fret 2: C# |
Slide this shape along the neck: fret 2 = F#aug, fret 3 = Gaug, fret 4 = Abaug, fret 5 = Aaug.
Learning Faug step by step
- Put the shape down slowly and pick each string once to check it rings.
- Take the hand off and put the whole shape back at once, ten times in a row.
- Switch between Faug and F for one minute, then try Bb.
Faug higher up the neck
This shape has the same notes higher up the neck. Use it when the chord before or after sits nearby.
Where Faug is used
A common move is F → Faug → Bb: the raised note in Faug pushes up into Bb.
Practise Faug with the microphone
Practise Faug in ChordRunner: when its symbol appears, play F, A, C# and the microphone or MIDI keyboard confirms it. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.

What notes are in the Faug guitar chord?
F augmented has three notes: F, A, C#. On the guitar some of them are doubled on different strings, so all six (or five) strings sound like one chord.
Which fingers do I use for Faug?
Index finger: 6th string (low E), fret 1, little finger: 4th string (D), fret 3, middle finger: 3rd string (G), fret 2, ring finger: 2nd string (B), fret 2.
Will the game recognise my Faug?
If F, A, C# ring together, yes: ChordRunner listens through the microphone and also accepts a USB MIDI keyboard.
Your instrument is the controller.
ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
