133111: × = do not play, 0 = open string.
Fm string by string
| 6th string (low E) | fret 1: F |
|---|---|
| 5th string (A) | fret 3: C |
| 4th string (D) | fret 3: F |
| 3rd string (G) | fret 1: Ab |
| 2nd string (B) | fret 1: C |
| 1st string (high E) | fret 1: F |
From Fm to F only one thing changes: 3rd string (G): fret 1 → fret 2.
Learning Fm step by step
- Put the shape down slowly and pick each string once to check it rings.
- Lift the hand, then land all fingers together. Repeat ten times.
- Switch between Fm and Ab for one minute, then try Bbm.
If Fm does not sound clean
- A string buzzes? Press right behind the fret, not on top of it.
- Pick the strings one by one: the silent one shows which finger to lift a little.
- Sore fingertips are normal at the start; short daily practice fixes it.
Practise Fm with the microphone
Strum Fm near the microphone when it appears and the game hears it. On screen you see the symbol, not the diagram: that is how the shape sticks. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.

What notes are in the Fm guitar chord?
F minor has three notes: F, Ab, C. On the guitar some of them are doubled on different strings, so all six (or five) strings sound like one chord.
Which fingers do I use for Fm?
Index finger: across the strings (barre), fret 1, ring finger: 5th string (A), fret 3, little finger: 4th string (D), fret 3.
Can I practise Fm with the microphone?
Yes. ChordRunner hears an acoustic or electric guitar through the microphone, and also a USB MIDI keyboard. It shows the chord symbol Fm, not the diagram, and checks the notes you strum.
Your instrument is the controller.
ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
