244322: × = do not play, 0 = open string.
Which note each string plays
| 6th string (low E) | fret 2: F# |
|---|---|
| 5th string (A) | fret 4: C# |
| 4th string (D) | fret 4: F# |
| 3rd string (G) | fret 3: A# |
| 2nd string (B) | fret 2: C# |
| 1st string (high E) | fret 2: F# |
From F# to F#m only one thing changes: 3rd string (G): fret 3 → fret 2.
Learning F# step by step
- Put the shape down slowly and pick each string once to check it rings.
- Take the hand off and put the whole shape back at once, ten times in a row.
- Change from F# to B and back for a minute; then add C#.
Common F# problems
- Buzzing means the finger is too far from the fret: slide it closer.
- Pick the strings one by one: the silent one shows which finger to lift a little.
- Sore fingertips are normal at the start; short daily practice fixes it.
Make F# automatic
In ChordRunner F# comes up between other chords and the microphone checks your strum, so the change becomes automatic. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
Play the demoCommon questions
Is F# easy on guitar?
It is a barre chord at fret 2, so it takes a little more strength at first. Start slowly, check that every string rings, then practise switching to B.
Which fingers do I use for F#?
Index finger: across the strings (barre), fret 2, ring finger: 5th string (A), fret 4, little finger: 4th string (D), fret 4, middle finger: 3rd string (G), fret 3.
Can I practise F# with the microphone?
Yes. ChordRunner hears an acoustic or electric guitar through the microphone, and also a USB MIDI keyboard. It shows the chord symbol F#, not the diagram, and checks the notes you strum.
Your instrument is the controller.
ChordRunner is a browser game that teaches piano and guitar chords: a chord appears on screen, you play it on a real instrument, and your runner jumps. MIDI keyboard or microphone, both work.
