A Piano Learning App That Runs in Your Browser

ChordRunner is a piano learning app that runs in your browser, so there is nothing to download. You play real chords on a piano or keyboard and know instantly if they were right. Try the demo with no account: it has limited content, and the advanced features (every chord type, sight reading, ear training, live multiplayer) are in ChordRunner Premium.

What the piano learning app includes

Start with the demo, with no account: it has limited content, so you can see how ChordRunner works before choosing Premium.

  • All 12 ways to play, from chord levels to boss battles and speed runs
  • Every chord type, from triads to 13ths, in all 12 keys
  • Sight reading and ear training with your real instrument

Can you learn piano from an app?

You can learn a lot of it, as long as the app hears what you really play. The part an app does best is the repetition a skill needs: playing the same chords, notes and patterns hundreds of times, with instant feedback on every one. That is exactly what ChordRunner is built for.

What ChordRunner trains

  • Chords: major and minor triads first, then 7ths, 9ths, 11ths and 13ths, in all 12 keys
  • Sight reading: real notation on a staff, played in real time
  • Ear training: hear a chord or a note, then play it back
  • Chord progressions: type a progression and it loops until you own it

A 10-minute daily routine

  1. Warm up (3 minutes): a few short runs at a level you can already play. Speed comes from playing chords you know without thinking.
  2. Work on the misses (4 minutes): when one chord keeps stopping you, find its notes slowly on the keys, then play a run where it comes up again.
  3. Stretch (3 minutes): finish with one run just above your level. Losing it is fine: that is the chord you practise tomorrow.

Short daily sessions beat one long weekly one, because your hands remember what they repeat often. Instant feedback matters most at the start: a wrong chord corrected in a second never has time to become a habit.

What it does not do

ChordRunner does not teach complete songs or hand posture. If those are your goals, a teacher or a song course covers them, and ChordRunner makes the chords and reading inside those songs automatic. Plenty of players use both.

Built for adult beginners too

ChordRunner is a browser game you control with a real instrument: a chord appears on screen, you play it, and your runner jumps.

It adapts to you

It speeds up when you are on a streak and eases off when you start missing, so the challenge always fits your level.

Any voicing counts

Inversions, open voicings, doubled notes: if the right notes are there, the chord counts. No single "correct" hand shape to memorise first.

Your instrument, any device

Plug in a USB MIDI keyboard for instant response, or let the microphone listen to your acoustic piano or guitar. Chrome or Edge on a computer, phone or tablet.

Common questions

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. The demo runs in the browser with no download and no account, on a MIDI keyboard, into your microphone or on the on-screen keyboard. It has limited content; advanced features are in ChordRunner Premium.

Do I need a subscription?

No. ChordRunner Premium is available as a monthly plan you can cancel anytime, or as a one-time payment for lifetime access, with no subscription at all.

Can you learn piano from an app?

You can learn chords, reading and ear skills very effectively, because an app gives instant feedback on hundreds of repetitions. Hand posture and complete songs are easier with a teacher or a song course; ChordRunner makes the chords and reading inside those songs automatic.

Is ChordRunner good for adult beginners?

Yes. It starts with major and minor triads, speeds up only when you are on a streak and eases off when you miss. Any voicing of the right notes counts, so you can focus on hearing and finding the chord instead of one exact hand shape.

Do I need to download anything?

No. ChordRunner runs in Chrome or Edge on a computer, phone or tablet. A USB MIDI keyboard is detected automatically; without one, the microphone listens to your acoustic piano or guitar.
