A Multiplayer Guitar Game You Play on a Real Guitar

A multiplayer guitar game where you play a real guitar, not buttons: everyone in the room gets the same chord at the same moment, strums it into the microphone, and a live leaderboard shows who is ahead.

No account, no download. The demo has limited content. Advanced features are in ChordRunner Premium.

  • MIDI keyboard
  • Digital or acoustic piano
  • Guitar
  • Computer, phone or tablet

How a multiplayer guitar match works

  • Create a room and share the 4-digit code with your friends.
  • Everyone gets the same chords at the same moment.
  • Strum each chord on your guitar; the microphone hears it.
  • A live leaderboard shows who is ahead until the end.

Guitar against piano, in the same room

Guitar players use the microphone, piano players can plug in a USB MIDI keyboard. Both play the same chord symbols, so a guitarist can race a pianist on equal terms.

Why it makes you better

Playing against someone adds just enough pressure: you stop looking at your hand and start finding shapes by memory. The changes you practise alone become fast when a friend is right behind you on the leaderboard.

Not ready for a live match?

Practise alone first with the guitar chord game, then share a run in the chat and let others try to beat your record.

Tips for guitarists in a live room

  • Sit close to the microphone, about an arm away, and keep other sounds low.
  • Strum all strings of the shape cleanly: the game listens for the notes of the chord.
  • Mute the strings between chords so the old chord does not ring into the new one.
  • Start the room on major and minor chords, then raise the level as everyone warms up.

Before your first match

  1. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer, tablet or phone.
  2. Plug in a USB MIDI keyboard (detected automatically) or allow the microphone for a piano or guitar.
  3. Pick the chord level for the room: from major and minor triads up to 13th chords.
  4. Any voicing counts: root position, inversions or open shapes.

Common questions

Can I play a multiplayer game with a real guitar?

Yes. ChordRunner hears your acoustic or electric guitar through the microphone. In a room everyone gets the same chords at the same moment and a live leaderboard ranks the players.

How do I play with friends?

Create a room and share its 4-digit code. Friends join from their browser on a computer, tablet or phone; nothing to install.

Can a guitarist play against a pianist?

Yes. Guitar works through the microphone and piano through a USB MIDI keyboard or the microphone; both answer the same chord symbols.

Does the microphone hear my guitar in a noisy room?

It works best with the guitar about an arm away from the microphone and little background noise. Strum the full shape and mute the strings between chords.

Is multiplayer in the demo?

The demo has limited content. Live multiplayer is an advanced feature in ChordRunner Premium.
