Practise F#sus4 in four steps

  1. Say the notes out loud while you press them: F#, B and C#.
  2. Play F#, then F#sus4, then F# again, and hear what the 4th pulls back toward the third.
  3. Try F#sus4 in 1st inversion, the position that sits closest to your last chord.
  4. Then test it in random order among other chords: recall under time pressure is what sticks.

Five minutes a day is enough to make F#sus4 feel easy.

When to play F#sus4

  • The classic move is F#sus4 → F#: the 4th B falls one step to the third A# and the tension melts.
  • You can use it in F# major, C# major and B major, wherever F# itself fits.
