A6 and F#m7
A6 has exactly the same notes as F#m7. Put A in the bass and it sounds like a major chord with a sweet 6th; put F# in the bass and it is a minor seventh.
Keys and moves for A6
- A6 is a home chord: it replaces A at the end of a song in A major.
- It is also the IV chord in E major, a soft colour before going home.
Make A6 automatic
- Say the notes out loud while you press them: A, C#, E and F#.
- Switch between A and A6 ten times without looking at your hand.
- Try A6 in 1st inversion, the position that sits closest to your last chord.
- Then test it in random order among other chords: recall under time pressure is what sticks.
Keep each session short and frequent and A6 will become automatic.
Turn A6 into a reflex
ChordRunner shows a chord symbol and you play it on a MIDI keyboard, a real piano through the microphone or the on-screen keys. Sixth chords come in the level "Sixth & Add Chords".
