D6 and Bm7
D6 has exactly the same notes as Bm7. Put D in the bass and it sounds like a major chord with a sweet 6th; put B in the bass and it is a minor seventh.
The formula of D6
Start from D, which you may already know, and change one thing: add B on top, one whole step above the fifth.

Practise D6 in four steps
- Say the notes out loud while you press them: D, F#, A and B.
- Play D, then D6, then D again, and hear what the added 6th brings to the chord.
- Alternate root position and 1st inversion, keeping shared notes still.
- Last, meet D6 mixed with chords you already know, in an order you did not plan.
Come back to D6 tomorrow: short daily sessions beat one long one.
Where D6 is used
- D6 is a home chord: it replaces D at the end of a song in D major.
- It is also the IV chord in A major, a soft colour before going home.
